Drive Change Food Truck

Brooklyn, NYC _SITU Fabrication

In fall 2013, Situ was approached by a social justice oriented non-profit called Drive Change that works with people who were previously incarcerated to help build skills and reintegrate back into society. Drive Change was developing a food truck called “Snowday” that would serve food cooked by people in this program. The menu consisted of foods which all contained NY Maple syrup. Situ was approached to design and fabricate the exterior of the truck. Using reclaimed cedar and redwood boards from deconstructed water towers in NYC, we created a tight lattice which dissolves into a snow flake form as it wraps the truck. This innovative aesthetic married the contrasting cozy cabin-style feeling evoked by the hot maple syrup tapped from upstate NY with the snowflake motif from the truck’s star product: shaved ice with maple syrup. All of this, presented in a new and innovative way, expresses the unique nature of the Drive Change mission.
